Discount Food Haul

I do LOVE a good deal. Especially on food. I follow this place called Mike’s Discount Foods in MN. I live like an hour away though so I HAVE to know there’s enough stuff to make it worth the drive. Who am I kidding?  I could make it weekly and STILL find enough stuff to make it worth while but for the sake of gas prices (currently $3.49) and driving something that gets about 15MPG on a good day I’d better not. Fortunately the day after scoping out their Facebook page and finding deals for bananas by the case (50 lbs for $9.99), GoGo Squeez (12pk/10pk for $3.99), and Kerry Gold Grassfed shredded cheese (price not listed in their Facebook post) a friend happened to ask when we were going to go and I was like um yeah how about today?!
I scored THE VERY LAST box of bananas, 10 boxes of the GoGo’s, a 24 pack case of Pirate’s Booty, Cascadian Farms Organic oat O’s for $1 BOGO (so yes 50 cents a box!!), two boxes of Natural Choice chicken & cheddar snack packs, 5 lbs of wheat flour for $1 a piece, and as you can see from my receipt a whole lot more. Total came out to $136.14. This was for a cart PACKED to the gills- could not hold anything else unless I wanted to play real life free style tetris, which while tempting, I did not.

Your biggest question at this point is probably what does one do with 50 lbs of bananas, or as the box listed them – 150 food service bananas? A post for another time will have to answer that one.
Next up tomorrow- I will price out this entire grocery haul to see what it would have cost at a regular retailer.

Was it all crunchy? No not as much as I would like but I have to balance the crunchy factor with the cheapskate factor and do the best I can.
