Discount Food Haul – Part Two: Price Comparison

Thinking you’ve saved money is nice but KNOWING exactly how much you saved is very satisfying. So with this in mind I looked up every item I purchased at Mike’s Discount Foods to see what it would cost at full price at a regular retailer. I used Target, Walmart, and Amazon since not all products would be available at just one store. My handwritten (yes that is cursive, mostly, it’s not dead yet) list follows item for item how it is listed on the Mike’s receipt if you really want to get into the nitty gritty of each individual item and compare those prices. You can also see my lovely math at the bottom so I wouldn’t lose track with my calculator. In the end had I bought all of these items at full price the total would have been $403.28 (not including any possible tax) versus the subtotal of $135.96 at Mike’s. For a savings of $267.32!!! I could literally triple the items at Mike’s ($407.88) for close to what I would have paid at a regular retailer. The only disappointing thing is they are nearly an hour drive from where I live so I can’t take advantage of weekly shopping there. If you have a similar store near you don’t hesitate to check them out sometime. It is definitely worth it.
